Who we are
Barely-Free VPN is run by Barely-Free, based in Ontario, Canada. Email: [email protected]. This address is also our point of contact for users and for authorities, including under the EU Digital Services Act; we answer in English.
The service
We provide VPN access through keys. A key is a private link that sets up an app such as Happ, Hiddify or Karing. We work to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will always be available, fast, or reachable from every network, and we may add, change or retire servers and profiles.
Your key
Your key link works like a password: anyone who has it can use your key. Keep it private. Each plan allows a number of devices at the same time (Free: 2; Basic: 2; Plus: 4; Pro: 45). Devices are counted by the network address they connect from; when a key is at its limit, connections from another network are refused until one of the others stops.
Free keys
A free key 50 GB of traffic and lasts 30 days. One free key per network in any 30 days. When it runs out you can renew it free 24 hours later, from its page.
Paid plans and automatic renewal
Paid plans are monthly subscriptions in US dollars, charged through our payment processor, Stripe. A subscription renews automatically every month, at the price you subscribed at, charged to the card you paid with, until you cancel it. Stripe emails a receipt for each payment.
Cancel online at any time: on your key's page, press “Manage or cancel the subscription”, which opens Stripe's page for your subscription — no need to write to us, though you can ([email protected]). Your plan then runs until the end of the month you have paid for and does not renew.
New prices apply to new subscriptions. We will not change the price of your subscription without telling you at least 30 days before your first renewal at the new price, so that you can cancel first.
Refunds
If you ask within 30 days of subscribing, we refund your first payment in full. After that there are no refunds, including for part of a month, except where the law gives you one. After a refund your key keeps working until the end of the month you had paid for, and the subscription does not renew; a chargeback ends the paid plan straight away. If you live in the EU or the UK, you have a legal right to withdraw from the subscription within 14 days; our 30-day full refund covers it and gives you more. Details: Refund Policy.
Acceptable use
- Nothing illegal where you are or where we operate.
- No attacks, scanning, spam, phishing, malware or fraud.
- No child sexual abuse material, ever.
- No BitTorrent or other peer-to-peer file sharing (our servers block it).
- No reselling keys or sharing them publicly, unless you have an Enterprise agreement with us.
- No attempts to break, overload or get around the service's limits.
If a key breaks these rules we may end it without notice and without a refund.
How we restrict use
We do not look at what you send or which sites you visit. What we do restrict, and how:
- Our servers block BitTorrent and other peer-to-peer traffic.
- Each plan's device limit is enforced automatically: connections from one network too many are refused.
- Automatic protection blocks network addresses that flood this website, try keys that do not exist or attack our servers (for example by guessing passwords), for a limited time. An address that looks like a real user's is warned twice first. A blocked visitor sees a page saying so and whom to write to.
- We end keys that break these terms, including the keys of people who repeatedly infringe copyright (Copyright Policy).
These decisions are made by software; a person reviews any of them on request at [email protected], and we lift a block that was a mistake.
Privacy
What we keep, and for how long, is in our Privacy Policy. In short: no activity logs.
What we promise, and what we do not
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and beyond what consumer law guarantees you, we make no promises about it. A VPN hides your traffic from the network you are on; it does not make you anonymous to the sites you use. You remain responsible for what you do online and for the laws that apply to you.
Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the three months before the claim. Nothing limits a liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Your rights under consumer law
Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under the consumer protection law of the place where you live, such as Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, Quebec's Consumer Protection Act, or the laws of the EU or the UK. If a term here conflicts with such a right, the right wins.
Ending the service
You can stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or end a key that breaks these terms. If we end the service for any other reason, we refund the unused part of your paid month.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version. For paid plans, a change takes effect at your next renewal; a change that is worse for you we announce at least 30 days before, and you can cancel before it applies.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, whose courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the law of the place where you live, or your right to go to the courts there.
